Bumblebee
This project was a commission from Paramount Pictures for the premiere of their latest film, Transformers One, in New York City.
The stakeholders requested a screen-accurate build designed to allow for exaggerated movement and dynamic character performance. To meet these requirements, I utilized drywall stilts for enhanced mobility and constructed the majority of the costume using EVA foam to keep it light, crafting every element from self-designed patterns. The helmet was 3D printed by Delta Makers Orlando using a provided CAD file to ensure precision and authenticity.
To achieve the desired aesthetic, I applied a metallic paint finish with subtle distressing, as per the client’s specifications, creating a polished yet dynamic look.
This was a very fast build, with a deadline of only 4 weeks. I led a team of 3 cosplay assistants who helped make this speed build possible. With such a tight timeline, communication and clear direction to the team were imperative for a cohesive build.
Additional collaborator Stefan Price of Roundtable Productions created the amazing articulating fingers inside the hands that move with the actor.
