Cart Titan
This original build of the Cart Titan from Attack on Titan earned first place in FanExpo Orlando’s Master’s Division Craftsmanship Contest in 2023.
The build is a fully articulated puppet, allowing synchronized movement of both arms and legs while being operated by a single puppeteer. I began by constructing a lightweight yet durable base using PEX tubing and basket-weaving cane to form the structure. I then custom-patterned the exterior and used upholstery foam as the primary material. A layer of 1/8-inch polystyrene foam, coated with layered latex paint, was added to create a realistic, skin-like texture.
This build was engineered to combine lifelike motion with practical transportation logistics, designed to be easily disassembled for travel while maintaining a dynamic and striking presence.
This build was completed in 3 months.
Collaborations: Harry Armstrong designed and welded the back leg mechanism out of half a child’s bike and some additional creativity.
Delta Makers Orlando 3D printed the hands from a CAD file found online, using flexible filament that allows the hands to be more durable when walking across multiple surfaces (or even being stepped on).
