Decayed Guardian
I loved designing and creating this "Decayed Guardian" from Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I wanted to ensure it was designed for both functionality and mobility. The entire cosplay was meticulously crafted to break down into four portable sections, with the largest piece designed for effortless transport on wheels. This makes my job of storing and transporting it much easier.
The creation process incorporated a wide range of advanced techniques, including woodworking, foam sculpting, and making my own paper clay. A CNC router was used to ensure the wood and foam rings that made up sections of the guardian were perfect circles and fit together for optimal movement.
Additional expertise was applied in texturizing and using scenic painting techniques to achieve a highly detailed finish. The build also features an impressive lighting system, with over 3,500 LED lights installed and soldered together within the build.
This piece can be puppeteered in multiple sections, adding movement and interaction with fans. This build was completed in 3 months.
Collaborations: Ian Cole programmed the software that made this guardian light up and play that distinctive "panic jazz" music that strikes fear into the heart of all Zelda gamers. He also managed the power distribution that allows this build to be mobile and scoot around convention spaces.Steven Erikson created the CAD file and 3D printed the mount for the LED rings inside the eye. This allowed the eye to really pop and made the fake laser effect more realistic!
